CHRISTCHURCH, NEW ZEALAND

Next I’m heading to drop off the campervan near the Christchurch airport. After a solid week it was interesting and also a bit sad to see the single lane change to a double lane as I got near the city. Next thing I knew I was surrounded by other cars and this adventure seemed over. I followed the simple instructions and found the EZ Car rental lot near the airport and that was that. A cute girl at the agency drove me over to the airport itself so I could take the bus that went into the city center.

I had reserved a single room for one night as my flight back to Auckland left at 11 the next morning. I got off the bus and found my hostel and checked in. Christchurch seems like a really nice town, but I wasn’t nearly as drawn to it as I was to Queenstown. I walked around the central part of town and took a few snapshots, but it was pretty mellow. I had some work to do on my computer so I went back and did it. I thought about going out, but for some reason I just wasn’t in the mood after the serenity of camping for a week.

The next morning I took the bus back to the airport and then a quick flight to Auckland. I had a couple hours to kill while I waited for my penultimate flight of this journey, to Tahiti’s capital city of Pape’ete. I was looking forward to going to Tahiti for a few days and then seeing my friends and family again in Los Angeles, but I was definitely very sad that my round the world trip was almost over.
